Faith Community Lutheran Church, Academy and Preschool united together in December 2016 to raise over $10,000 for a farm project.
After many delays we are now nearing the point of purchasing farmland near the orphanage.
We have been borrowing landin Bong county and have a good crop of rice coming up now that will be harvested in November 2017. But now we believe the Lord is guiding us to our own land to buy.
We are grateful for the donors who have committed to a matching grant up to $100,000 for all donations towards the farm (and high school construction) from now through April 2018.
Rev Patrick F Nanning recently traveled to Bong County, in the interior of Liberia for the purpose of establishing the Hope Farm. 5 acres of land was secured, 3 caretakers were employed, and the local church was contracted to complete the brushing, or clearing, of the land.
Rice and cassava will be planted in late-May or early-June which will bring income and food sources this year.
Another portion of the land will be dedicated to breeding goats and cows. Before animals are purchased though the land will be cleared and an animal structure and the caretaker's home needs to be constructed. The hope is to have this completed before the rains get too heavy in June or July.
Although the animals will take a little longer to produce sustainable income, within 2 years they should be an extremely viable source of protein and income for the orphanage and ministry.
